Overture (2018)
5’ 30”, for brass band
Overture was initially commissioned by the National Youth Brass Band of NZ for its 2019 tour of Queensland, Australia. The work was intended to offer a dark, ominous opening in opposition to the traditionally uplifting concert opener, using a low pulsing two-bar phrase as its foundation to grow from.
